At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

- Understand Gait biomechanics in the typically developing child
- Learn common pediatric rotational problems
- Develop an approach to the pediatric orthopaedic physical examination
- Provide a guideline when to provide reassurances and when to refer
- Review interventions and treatment strategies

Abstract:
This comprehensive course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address musculoskeletal concerns in pediatric patients. Through two lectures, attendees will learn to systematically approach joint and muscle pain in children, understand indications for managing such issues in primary care, and determine appropriate referral criteria. Additionally, participants will gain insight into gait biomechanics and common rotational problems in typically developing children, along with strategies for conducting pediatric orthopedic physical examinations. Emphasis will be placed on providing guidelines for intervention and referral, enabling attendees to confidently assess, reassure, and refer patients as needed.

To receive CME credit for this course in Armenia, you must take the course in Armenian and complete the post-course quiz. You have three chances to achieve a passing score of 70%. Dr. Melissa Bent
Melissa Bent, MD, is an attending physician in the Children’s Orthopaedic Center, and is assistant clinical professor of Orthopaedics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Bent's clinical interests and experience include a non operative approach to general pediatric orthopaedic conditions such as clubfoot, scoliosis, neuromuscular conditions, developmental hip dysplasia. Her research interests include medical education in musculoskeletal medicine and spina bifida/neuromuscular conditions. She graduated from medical school from Morehouse School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the University Of California San Francisco. She also completed a fellowship in Non Operative Pediatric Orthopaedics at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
