This course provides healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills to effectively respond to disasters and manage trauma cases. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of disaster preparedness principles, including risk assessment, resource allocation, and coordinated response strategies. The course will also cover the critical steps in stabilizing trauma patients, focusing on airway management, circulation support, and rapid assessment techniques. Additionally, it will delve into the management of penetrating chest and abdominal trauma, highlighting key interventions such as hemorrhage control, surgical considerations, and emergency decision-making. Through case-based discussions and practical scenarios, learners will enhance their ability to provide life-saving care in high-stress environments.

Oriane Longerstaey, MD

Oriane Longerstaey, MD

Dr. Longerstaey is currently a fellow in the division of Global Emergency Medicine at Brown University in Providence, RI. After obtaining her medical doctorate from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, she graduated from her residency in emergency medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Her research interests lie in global emergency medicine and capacity building of emergency systems. She has particular expertise in graduate medical education with ongoing residency education projects in Tanzania and Armenia. She has also worked in Rwanda to build a curriculum for mass casualty incidents response for physicians, nurses and paramedics.

Dr. Nouf Alkaabi

Dr. Nouf Alkaabi

Nouf Alkaabi, MD is a pediatric emergency medicine consultant at the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in Riyadh, Saudi, Arabia. She completed the Advanced Emergency Medicine Academies (BAEMA) Disaster Medicine and Emergency Preparedness Fellowship at Brown University.

Dr. Vache Hambardzumyan

Vache Hambardsumyan, MD is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with decades of experience across the world. A provider of comprehensive Orthopaedic surgical services, Dr. Vache has special expertise in Orthopaedic Trauma, Spinal Surgery, Reconstructive Orthopaedics, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Limb Lengthening, and Deformity Correction. He holds a Ph.D. in Orthopaedics, studying bone reconstruction following removal of benign tumors.

Dr. Ani Aydin

Dr. Ani Aydin

Ani Aydin, MD, is an emergency Medicine intensivist, currently practicing as an attending physician in the Emergency Department and Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She is also the Medical Director of SkyHealth and the inaugural Medical Director of the YNHH Adult Ground Critical Care Transport (CCT) team. She has served on several society boards, and is a recognized national and international speaker on Emergency Medicine and Critical Care topics.

Dr. Kotikian is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who specializes in oral and maxillofacial trauma, infections, oral pathology resection and reconstruction, treatmemt of obstructive sleep apnea patients(surgical and non-surgical), and craniofacial anomalies (orthognathic surgery/corrective jaw surgery)
