Anahit Zakharyan

Anahit Zakharyan is a highly accomplished pediatric hematologist with a passion for providing exceptional care to young patients with blood disorders. With extensive education, professional experience, and a commitment to ongoing learning, Dr. Zakharyan has made significant contributions to the field of pediatric hematology.

Dr. Zakharyan’s educational journey began with the completion of her residency in Pediatrics at the prestigious Yerevan State Medical University’s Heratsi N1 hospital complex from 1978 to 1980. Recognized for her exceptional abilities, she graduated with excellence from the Faculty of Pediatrics at Yerevan State Medical University from 1972 to 1978, earning a gold medal. Dr. Zakharyan then pursued specialized training in Hematology and transfusion, completing her residency at the Hematology Center after Prof. R. H. Yeolyan from 1989 to 1991.

Throughout her professional career, Dr. Zakharyan has held several key positions that have allowed her to make a significant impact in the field. Since 2019, she has served as a pediatric hematologist at the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Armenia, located at the Hematology Center after Prof. R. H. Yeolyan. Prior to this, she held the same role at the Hematology Center from 1989 to 2019.

Dr. Zakharyan has been actively involved in academia, assuming various teaching and leadership roles. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Educational Methodology committee at the Faculty of General Medicine, Yerevan State Medical University. Additionally, she has been an associate professor in the Department of Hematology at Yerevan State Medical University since 2007. She has also served as the head of the Department of Hematology and Transfusion from 2007 to 2011 and as an assistant in the Department of Hematology and Transfusion from 2004 to 2007.

Dr. Zakharyan is an esteemed member of several professional organizations, including the Physicians Union of Armenian since 2019, the Pediatric Oncology East and Mediterranean Group (POEM) since 2018, the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology since 2018, the European Hematology Association (EHA) since 2015, and the Armenian Hematology Association (AHA) since 2014. She is also a member of the Armenian Association of Pediatricians since 2006.

Driven by a passion for research and academic pursuits, Dr. Zakharyan defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Study of blood hereditary indicators during hereditary periodic disease in Armenian patients” in 2004. She has published 75 scientific works in foreign and scientific journals and authored two educational-methodical manuals. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with awards and diplomas, including the prestigious “Kochum” award in 2005 for her groundbreaking work on a new method of treatment for acute leukemia in children. In 2020, Dr. Zakharyan was honored with the Boghossian Prize (previously the RA President’s Prize) for her outstanding contributions. Dr. Zakharyan has also developed guidelines on various pediatric hematological conditions, including “Childhood acute lymphoblastic.
