Abstract:
In this episode, Dr. Eyal Ben-Isaac interviews Dr. Tena Rosser, pediatric neurologist and Medical Director of the Neurocutaneous Clinic at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, about Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), one of the most common inherited genetic disorders affecting children. They review the genetics and inheritance of NF1, updated diagnostic criteria, common cutaneous and neurologic manifestations, associated tumors and musculoskeletal complications, and current recommendations for surveillance and long-term management. The discussion also highlights recent advances in targeted therapies, including MEK inhibitors, and provides practical guidance to help pediatricians recognize, diagnose, monitor, and coordinate care for children with NF1.

Dr. Tena Rosser
Dr. Tena Rosser is the Medical Director of the Neurocutaneous Clinic and an attending physician in the Division of Neurology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Dr. Rosser earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, completed her pediatric internship and residency at Children’s National Medical Center, and her fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at the same institution. She is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
