Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the normal timeline for dental development of infants and children. 
  • Understand how dental caries develop and its consequences when left untreated. 
  • Understand basic steps to prevent dental caries and gingivitis. 
  • Understand how certain children can be at higher risk for developing dental disease. 

Intended Audience:

This online course is designed for pediatricians, family physicians, and pediatric nurses.

Abstract:

This online course will review general dental growth and development milestones from infancy to adolescence as well as common dental findings in the pediatric population. Concepts important to understanding some of the most common pediatric oral health concerns – dental caries and gingivitis – will be reviewed, along with caries risk assessment, disease process and prevention. A brief review of how certain medical conditions may affect the oral health and treatment of children with special health care needs will also be highlighted.
